Radical Prostatectomy Surgery

Radical prostatectomy surgery is performed for three types of problems that you could experience with your prostate. The first is prostate cancer. Prostate surgery for prostate removal can be done for severe cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH. A procedure called a transurethral resection of the prostate, a green light laser, or “the button” can clear out prostate tissue to alleviate urinary frequency. If you have an extremely large prostate, sometimes a radical prostatectomy is performed to treat your condition if all other methods of treatment have failed.

Surgery for an enlarged prostate can reset your urinary tract to functioning normally. Enlarged prostate surgery will save money on prostate medication and you will stop frequent trips to the bathroom, especially at night. You’ll also reduce your risk of urine backing up and traveling backward to the kidneys, which could lead to kidney damage or failure. In addition, prostate enlargement surgery helps prevent a floppy bladder, which results from loss of bladder muscle strength.
